Greetings, most esteemed delegates,
My name is Joonmo A. —a rising senior at Seoul International School—and it is my utmost privilege to serve as your president of the Six Party Talks in SEOMUN XXVIII. During the conference, I will be working in close collaboration with my Assistant President Daniel H. , and Deputy Assistant President Leona G. to ensure our committee’s debates are fruitful and friendships long-lasting.
As many of you would recognize, SPT is not a committee you commonly have the privilege of participating in MUN; it is a specialized committee created in 2003 amongst 6 nations to address the delicate power dynamics in the contentious Korean peninsula. Consequently, our agendas this year are specific and nuanced to the founding objective of SPT, allowing for a conclusive and pragmatic resolution to contemporary issues related to East Asian geopolitics. Thus, the three rigorously chosen agendas are the following: “Establishing a roadmap for the sustainable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” “Creating economic cooperation initiatives between North Korea and neighboring countries,” and “Addressing humanitarian concerns in North Korea regarding food security and healthcare for children and young adults.”
Even though the three agendas have a harmless connotation, my extensive experience in SPT suggests that—having 6 nations that disagree on almost everything—there is still ample probability of overheated debates and aggressive word choices to surface. However, in accordance with SEOMUN XXVIII’s annual theme “Voices of Tomorrow,” I hope and highly encourage every delegate to voice compromise over dominance, and alliances over conflict. Let us go one step further from the battlefield SPT is known for to a committee that fosters growth and reconciliation.
That being said, I’m extremely excited to meet you all in person and make unforgettable memories. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or suggestions. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Joonmo A.
