Dear Delegates of the Human Rights Council,

Welcome to SEOMUN XXVIII! My name is Chloe Yae-Eun O. , a senior at Korea International School, and I am deeply honored to serve as the President of the Human Rights Council for this year’s conference.

Over the past few years, Model United Nations has been an incredible journey for me, allowing me to grow as both a speaker and a leader. I have had the privilege of serving as Deputy Secretary-General at Seoul Model United Nations XXVII and SKYMUN XII, as well as Assistant Director for Yale Model United Nations Korea and Yale Model United Nations Singapore. These experiences have provided me with a profound appreciation for diplomacy and I hope to share this passion with all of you throughout the course of SEOMUN XXVIII.

This year, the HRC will target three critical issues:

Migration in Southeast Asia and Migrant Worker Rights

Combating Criminal Violence in the Latin American and Caribbean Region

The Human Rights Situation in Gaza

Each agenda represents a urgent challenge to global human rights. As delegates, your responsibility is to accurately represent your assigned countries, engage in meaningful debate, and collaborate to draft impactful solutions. I strongly encourage you to approach these topics with an open mind, a willingness to listen, and a readiness to compromise as these qualities will be essential to achieving effective resolutions.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of preparation. A deep understanding of your country’s stance will set the tone for your performance in committee. The strength of our debate, and ultimately, the success of this committee, will depend on the effort you put in before the first session begins.

SEOMUN XXVIII is not only an opportunity to engage in diplomatic discourse but also to develop your skills as global citizens. I encourage you to approach this committee with an open mind, a collaborative spirit, and a determination to uphold the ideals of the United Nations.

I look forward to meeting each of you and witnessing the thoughtful and impactful solutions you will bring to our committee.

Regards,

Chloe Yae-Eun O.

President of the Human Rights Council
