Greetings Delegates of CSW,
My name is Yuna S. , and it is my utmost honor to serve as the President of the Commission on the Status of Women at the 28th iteration of Seoul Model United Nations. As we gather under this year’s theme, Voices of Tomorrow, I invite all of you to reflect not only on the many challenges women face globally but also on the impactful power each of your voices holds in advocating for social justice.
In the United Nations, the Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. This makes the committee vital for promoting women’s rights and documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the globe.
The three topics our committee will be delving into during the conference include:
Discussing the lack of opportunities for education for girls in LEDCs
Impact of the Gaza Conflict on Palestinian girls’ rights
The effects of economic sanctions on women’s employment in Iran
All three issues are deeply rooted in political, social, and economic structures that demand courage and diplomacy. As representatives of different countries, each of you has a role to challenge norms through negotiation, raise concerns, and propose solutions feasible and inclusive in the long term. In a world where the rights of women and girls are too often sidelined, this committee offers a platform for your voices to shape policy grounded in empathy.
This year officially marks my third year in Model United Nations. Although my time may be shorter or longer than that of others, I have come to realize that the most meaningful part of MUN is during the moments that challenge you to grow stronger. Some of you may be completely new; for some, this may be your second or third SEOMUN conference. Regardless of personal experience, I encourage all of you to do research on your country's stance and the issues thoroughly for fruitful discussions.
I look forward to the thoughtful negotiations and diplomacy that will unfold during the three days of the conference.
See you all in October!
Warmest regards,
Yuna S.
